Run to the Hills

28-29 August 2010 - With rallies coming thick and fast the four days since the SW National was spent getting feeling back into bums, but as Friday approached we eagerly packed up our machines again with the necessities for this type of event – tent, sleeping bag, and some ‘waterproof’ clothes.
After a check round the machine and filling up with some ‘go juice’ we were off towards the Midlands, this time into the Peak District for the RTTH rally. This takes place just short of Buxton in Derbyshire, behind an olde style pub called the ‘Bull I' th' Thorn’. After riding through light rain for most of the journey we arrived slightly ‘damp’ mid afternoon, but it was good to see an already busy site. This included a large marquee, toilets and showers, food stalls (Indian, Full English, Chinese, Spudulike), dealer market and full use of the attached pub.
The entry fee of £17 was pretty reasonable for two nights' camping and all the entertainment, we found a clear area and pitched up home and were soon joined by fellow auto riding mates. A look around the site showed I would say at least a 40% share of pulley powered machines. Most people had stocked up on their own booze, so this meant partying around tents until eventually making our way into the organised entertainment. With three rooms catering for this, everyone seemed pleased and it even included several live acts in the marquee. Also a pub back room was handed over to the ‘Darkside’ and in here Indie and even DnB were pumped out well into the early hours.
Saturday saw a custom show take place in the pub car park and also quite a few stalls arrived, the majority of these selling related parts and clothing. There was also a converted bus offering body piercing and tattooing and this was kept busy making holes! Being midway between the Midlands and Manchester, people arrived from both directions throughout the day swelling the numbers to close on 2000 by the time the evening acts hit the stage.
Even though the skies threatened every now and again, the majority of the weekend was dry and at some stages sunny! For me this was one of the highlights of the year so far, beautiful scenery, a great site and great budget entertainment, VFM certainly lived up to their name this time!
