> 12-14 November 2010 - It’s always good to finish the season in style and what could be more appealing than a mid-November ride to the ‘metropolis’ of Mablethorpe!

Mablethorpe ‘End of Season’ Rally

For those of us that support the National Rally scene, this quiet east coast venue probably wouldn’t have been the first place to come to mind, but with decent weather and a new venue booked, we set off in an optimistic mood.

Things were going well as we sped through the Lincolnshire ‘flatlands’ and the only glitch was when my handlebar mounted sat nav decided to send me down a local farm track much to the amusement of my pillion. This was soon rectified though with the use of my trusty ‘Little Chef’ paper map and by early afternoon we arrived in the town ‘centre’. This was my first visit to ‘Mable’ and all seemed in order with various arcades, shops and pubs – very much like its larger sister Skeg.

After a rip up the high street we quickly located the organised site at the Haven Golden Sands Park. We had pre-booked a chalet, working out at £15 per head – not bad for three days! So once we had collected the keys and the ‘mystery’ map we eventually found our home and parked up. By the time we made it into the main hall, the organisers, VFM, had sparked life into the out-of-season camp. The bars were fired up and related music filled the air from three different locations. Over the weekend the entertainment included six live acts, a parts fair, a ridden custom show and of course various DJs – all this for another £15; so for £30 our weekend was sorted.

By Saturday morning the site had filled nicely, various models and makes were parked both outside chalets and the main hall. Not much on the auto custom front, but the ‘workhorse’ GTS was well supported. Inside the hall you could buy anything from a cable tie to a complete scooter and by 11am the entertainment started again. The day was spent very much as the previous, meeting up with mates and every now and then venturing outside to see the latest arrivals. Late afternoon we made a trip into the town and the pubs were doing a brisk trade to the small-wheeled faithful.

The final evening had a party feel with two great acts ‘The Purple Hearts’ and ‘The Lovers’ hitting the stage. These went down well and I think all would agree the night was a great way to finish off the year – nay say decade! With nine years of auto conversion under my slightly straining belt, this year has been as good as any. By the time you read this hopefully the snow will have melted and it will only be a few weeks until the start of the 2011 season. See you in Blackpool!
