Goodbye Suzi

I’m writing this on a cold and damp January morning – much like any typical winter’s day. But this day is no typical day – it’s the day I finally say goodbye to the Suzuki Burgman.

Goodbye Suzi

Despite the ups and downs I’ve experienced with it while it was under my care, I must say that I will miss the old girl (well young actually, seeing as she's not even a year old yet).

As usual, she struck up instantly for my final commute to work on her and I felt a bit sad as we wound our way up the hill out of my village together for the last time. Our last 25-minute ride together was a bit of a mixed journey with the clear, damp morning air giving way to thick fog as we rode across ‘Winceby Top’ where the Parliamentarians beat the crap out of the Royalists. I could barely see the road in front of me, let alone see across the field where Cromwell (then a Roundhead Captain) had his horse shot from under him, or even the hollow where retreating Royalists were ruthlessly massacred. It was a sombre journey indeed!

Arriving at work, I parked her in our warehouse to await her return to Suzuki Towers. During 2010 she had faithfully transported me around the UK and through various European countries with little or no problems. I firmly believe that we had formed some sort of personal bond and I’m sad to see her go. I’ll miss you Suzi!

Despite 2011 getting off to an exceptionally cold and wintry start, things are starting to look positive already. I’d hazard a guess that this year will see major changes and developments in how we view our two-wheeled transport. Apart from the differences between motorcycles and scooters becoming even more blurred, the big area of change will be in hybrid and electric vehicles. Like it or not, these changes will happen and as a magazine that likes to be at the forefront of change, we will be carrying an ‘eco’ supplement in both this and the next issue of T&G. Who knows; this may even lead to it being a regular feature?

Before I sign off, don’t forget that our SYM Fiddle scooter competition ends with this issue, so it’s your last chance to get your entries in now.
